James Marsden played himself in the Truman Show style mockumentary

The Amazon Freevee show Jury Duty has taken social media by storm since its release – with the mockumentary show following the jury of a civil lawsuit case – with one juror unaware that everyone else – from the judge to the bailiff to his fellow jurors, is actually an actor. However, the one actor he did recognize is James Marsden, who plays a version of himself on the show.

Despite noticing James as previously playing Cyclops in X-Men, the show's unsuspecting lead Ronald is chatting to him about movies before innocently slating James' 2020 movie, .

While chatting to James, Ronald said: "You're in the movie Sonic? That's the new one with Jim Carrey, right? I heard that was not a good movie… Is it funny or is it supposed to be action?" He later realized that James had a lead role in it, laughing and swearing at his mistake. He later told James that he watched the movie and really enjoyed it, telling James that it was "fire".

When asked if Ronald's comments stung, James told the Evening Standard: "The opposite. It was like comedy gold… I’m playing the most self-involved, egocentric version of myself and that James is relatively unaware of how entitled he is."

He added that he didn't base his character off anyone specific, explaining: "It was like when you hear stories about an actor who’s doing crazy stuff on set, and they’re just so self-involved… essentially, it’s like a satire on Hollywood.” He added: "It’s a celebration of [Ronald] and his character… it was important to me that there was not anything negative [or] bad natured in it.

“He was never the subject of being humiliated or being pranked. He was just surrounded by a bunch of weirdos who had very eccentric personalities and very strange things were happening.”
