Stephen Emery, a prominent figure at Big Swell Entertainment, passed away suddenly at 46 after a workout session in an LA gym on Saturday.
While the exact cause of death is still undetermined, it’s worth noting that Emery had a heart attack five years prior which he had recovered from.
Before joining Big Swell Entertainment, founded just a year ago, Emery led the Film & TV department at The Solution Entertainment Group from 2016 to 2022. Here, he made notable contributions in producing and developing an extensive range of film and TV projects. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the production of Netflix’s “Wheelman,” featuring Frank Grillo, under Jeremy Rush’s direction. He also backed “Killerman” with Liam Hemsworth in the lead, Malik Bader’s direction; “Line of Duty” starring Aaron Eckhart, directed by Steven C. Miller; “Honest Thief” with Liam Neeson, under Mark Williams; and the anticipated “Werewolves,” again directed by Steven C. Miller with Frank Grillo leading the cast.
Between 2008 and 2015, Emery held the position of Executive Vice President at Circle of Confusion. There, his portfolio includes the action-comedy “Mr. Right” starring Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell, under Paco Cabezas; “Wake,” an action-packed thriller featuring Bruce Willis, Ben Kingsley, and Ellen Burstyn, directed by John Pogue; and the horror flick “Satanic,” directed by Jeff Hunt, featuring Sarah Hyland.
Emery’s journey in the entertainment world began at Creative Artists Agency, where he was associated with the motion picture talent department for three years. His career path led him to roles at DreamWorks and Focus Features before he became an integral part of Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures, overseeing projects like “Aeon Flux” for Paramount Pictures. Later, he collaborated with Bill Gerber at Warner Bros., where they produced noteworthy films such as “Major Movie Star” for Millennium Films and the iconic “Gran Torino” by Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.
